Television's blitz migration to the web

No longer can you say the online video revolution has begun cause it started at full speed from day one.

Q:Will web based TV programming replace your Television?

According to Wikipedia, sometime in 1994, ABC’s World News Now was the first television show to broadcast over the Internet, using the CU-SeeMe video conferencing software.
Back then, i doubt that your 56k modem could have made this experience any good, but it set off a lightbulb in many heads. Now, that broadband is in almost every home, as of June 2006, there are over 1,300 free IPTV channels available, and still growing every minute, even though some experts claim that “its not what the web was built for”
I ask myself;
If the web goes further into video/television how will that usability standards?
Can this growth in television content delivered online lead to more DRM and lawsuits?
Who has the right business model to profit from online television?
What about HDweb?

In December 2005, mariposaHD became the first IPTV broadcast available in a HDTV format.
According to their website:

“MariposaHD is the world’s first High Definition TV series distributed directly on the Internet. And it’s free. mariposaHD is recorded, edited, and distributed in the full 1920×1080 pixel resolution of the 1080i standard. We distribute mariposaHD using the BitTorrent peer-to-peer software. With a broadband Internet connection, you can download and watch mariposaHD on your PC, your HDTV, or even a video iPod.”

Now with the coming of the iPhone, and other 3G wireless cells and wifi technology, the growth of this medium is going to blow up in ways we can’t even imagine yet. We can already see that TV execs have no choice but to try to intergrate the technology into their programing. We see this with all the reality television competitions. Voting via your cell phone is huge right now,

Also, notice that i’m not mentioning online video sites like YouTube, or AOL, Google, & Yahoo video applications that also, legally or not, carrry some television programing. I’m talking about downloadable players, online applications, or torrent driven software that are distributing television programing online, and the ones that are creating content specifically to be delivered as a TV experience via the web.

My prediction is that, sooner than later our home pc will also double as our personal Tivo’s.
PVR software is already available for the Linux platform—and not only does it really work, but some are already pushing the boundaries with things like ” House to House wireless network for HDTV
